Once upon a time....oopps too boring a beginning , rite.....
Anyway as some of you may know by now, I am in the midst of preparing for my Fukuoka trip to visit my dear cousin Oliv. She, her hubby and lil girl have moved there due to her hubby's work commitments, and has been kind enough to invite us to come stay with them. Yes, it is very exciting to go to Japan again, the same exhiliration I felt during my first trip to Japan back in 2006. Japan is a very unique country with it's own peculiar cultures and traditions. Me, being a vege....will of course be facing many challenges to obtain 'edible vegetarian food' for myself and my mom. Not speaking a single word of japanese also will add to the 'excitement', when trying to converse with the japs on what can or cannot be eaten by us. My dear other half , on the other does not take pork....even more challenges in store for us....
For those who do not know, japanese people consider seafood as 'vegetarian'. Don't ask me why, but for sure....this will be my most challenging trip yet.
Preparing for my trip....I have been visiting numerous bookshops looking for helpful phrasebooks and dictionaries. But I must say, the better one is still Kinokuniya...the only outlet is at KLCC. Luckily located at my office doorstep...and within arm's reach.
Looking for ryokans.....this is also a challenge because not many websites are in english and I do have many specs to adhere to. I want....a private onsen, a private toilet, a private bath, open air onsen if possible, special meals request....etc etc....
All these look simple enough but do you know that not all ryoken onsens can manage this spec. You see the traditional ones , built like 'yonks' ago ...have communal baths...(yes, the japs like to bath together like one big happy family). We, chinese on the hand....do consider a bath rather private and would prefer to do it in the privacy of our own space....
Same token for the onsens (hot springs) , all are to be enjoyed in your own birthday suit.....some are even shared with male/female together....Now this I really cannot comprehend.
So , I am still looking for the 'perfect' ryoken.....however,my days are
numbered as time is getting short to my departure date.
But rest assured, I haven't given up yet.....so, for those who are keen to find out my latest updates, keep an eye out for this space...........
Moving On...
